9 MILE COUNTY FOREST NORDIC SKI CONDITIONS

1-17-2006 After a much needed 2" snowfall Monday night conditions are very nice. With the dropping tempatures Tuesday the trails were startint to set up nicely.

Our High School kids raced last night and had a good time. Temps were in the low 20s with the fresh snow. We used two layers of wax. First, Toko Diabloc Low Floro Red, scrap and brush. Then a second layer of Toko Dibloc High Floro Red, scrape, brush, Roto Brush.

Nine Mile County Forest Recreation Area Trails: The cross-country ski trails at Nine Mile Recreational Area are open. Most of the 30k of trails were groomed for skate skiing this morning. Not enough snow fell last night to allow for tracks to be set. Another 2-3 inches of snowfall is necessary to have enough snow to set tracks. The Alps are not skate groomed. Marathon County received 1-2 inches of heavy, wet snow Monday night. There is a 1 - 1 ½ inch hard packed icy base with 1 inch of loose snow on top. There is approximately 4-5 inches of snow in the woods for snowshoeing.
